Role

As the Forest Officer you will be responsible for regulating land use, forest management and related activities through the review and conditioning of approvals of the various applications to use public lands, and determining end use of public land for different activities. Recommendations and decisions regarding approval of activities are determined through discussions with affected stakeholders and through referrals with other agencies (i.e., Resource Management) from which issues are identified and appropriate integrated solutions determined. This position subsequently ensures compliance with approved plans and disposition conditions through field inspections and audits, and follows up on incidents of non-compliance through investigations and recommended enforcement action. The review of applications and plans, and the subsequent compliance monitoring, is conducted in accordance with provincial legislation, Departmental goals and policies and the principles of integrated land management for all land use and forest management dispositions. Qualifications

A degree in Forestry supplemented with two years directly related experience or a diploma in Forestry supplemented with four years directly related experience. Candidates must be eligible for registration with the College of Alberta Professional Foresters or Forest Technologists. A valid Class 5 Driver’s License is required. Equivalencies will be considered.

DRIVE FOR RESULTS by reviewing company operating plan submissions prior to approval to ensure all applicable Operating Ground rules, policy and legislation are adhered to, and ensure that the resource is managed for the best sustained use for Albertans.

DEVELOP NETWORKS to work with other jurisdictions and agencies on land and forest management operational matters.

BUILD COLLABORATIVE ENVIRONMENTS by identifying industry trends and advise management of sensitive issues through monitoring industry activities, participation in meetings and on committees.

AGILITY to readily adapt to changing priorities and work both independently and as a team in delivering a diverse workload and recommending enforcement action for situations of non-compliance.

ABOUT YOUR WORK ENVIRONMENT:
As the successful candidate, you will be operating out of an office setting. You will have frequent contact with the general public for issuance of permits, addressing concerns and/or complaints. You will also on a continuous basis liaise with other provincial departments, Municipal and Federal Governments.

Salary

$2,098.03 to $2,667.54 bi-weekly ($54,759 to $69,623 per annum)
