Description

As the successful candidate, your initial role will be that of an Operations Forester and a member of the Grande Prairie Timberlands operations team.  You will be responsible for administering harvest, log haul, and road construction contracts and will gain exposure to various aspects of the Timberlands business through other members of the Timberlands team.  Your time will be split about evenly between forest operations and an office environment.  Assignment length (including this one) within Timberlands typically range from three to five years before moving to a new role, with the intent of developing forestry and business skills, broadening experience and ensuring ongoing challenge, interest and contribution.

Grande Prairie’s location provides an opportunity to work for a major Forest Products Company while still enjoying the amenities of a larger center.  Grande Prairie is a vibrant city of approximately 55,000 people and has a host of recreational opportunities nearby, with one of the largest Fitness and Recreation complexes in northern Alberta.

Requirements:

  • Provide leadership in the area of safety to Weyerhaeuser contractors
  • Understand and meet the requirements of the Environmental Management System and our SFI Certification
  • Ensure compliance with all operating ground rules and environmental standards
  • Understand and meet our sawmill, pulpmill, government, local community, and customer requirements
  • Provide support to other Timberlands teams and team members
  • Lead improvement projects in safety, environment, operational efficiency, and costs

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Forestry or a closely related field with an eligibility for registration in the Association of Alberta Forest Management Professionals would be an asset, but an accredited technical diploma may also be considered.
  • Candidates with a minimum of two years related experience will be preferred.
  • Excellent communication, team-building and analytical skills are required.
