The Edson facility is located in central Alberta. Edson has a population of 8,646 (2012 Municipal Census) and has a full range of recreational and cultural facilities. Edson is strategically located on Highway 16, the Trans Canada Yellowhead Route approximately 180 kilometers west of Edmonton and only a short hour drive to world famous Jasper National Park.  For more information please see www.edson.ca.  

This position is part of the Maintenance front line leadership Team at the Edson oriented strand board mill and reports to the Maintenance Manager. The Electrical Supervisor provides expertise to support the mill from a process reliability and troubleshooting standpoint. 

Key Functions:

The Electrical Supervisor is expected to be a role model in our safety standards and on-the-job behavior by living our core principles of integrity, fairness, creating a positive work environment, and ensuring open communication among associates. Accountabilities include ensuring compliance with all applicable Weyerhaeuser, federal, provincial, and local laws and regulations. 

Following are the broad key functions for this role: 

  • Supervision and development of employees reporting to this position.
  • Responsible for safe, efficient operation of crew and all production facilities while on shift.
  • Ensuring proper job and safety procedures are followed. -Complying with all safety norms and regulations set by the industry. Must have previous experience in maintaining and upholding the Safety, Environmental, Quality and Company Standards of the Organization.
  • Participate in team meetings and safety training
  • Identify and address process improvements, maintenance and electrical issues
  • Holding self and others accountable for behaviour and performance and ensure adherence to all applicable site policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Proactively resolving employee issues and improve team work
  • Coordinates operations activities with maintenance team, to proactively address all equipment concerns.
  • Perform administrative duties such as preparing appropriate reports for shift operation and verify payroll time sheets.
  • Ensuring that all electrical maintenance activities in the facility are safely and efficiently carried out.
  • Proven expertise in preventive and predictive maintenance methods.
  • Good troubleshooting and failure analysis skills.
  • Recruiting, developing and continual training of the electrical staff and evaluating their performances on a monthly basis.
  • Maintain a professional relationship will interacting with other departments to ensure the proper functioning of all systems in a facility.
  • Delegating work to subordinates and ensuring the timely completion of the same.
  • Inspect work for completeness.
  • Filing purchase orders and other documentations for the procurement of spare and replacement parts
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, prepare estimates for time and materials, coordinate activities of various trades.
  • High degree of initiative, motivation and innovation.  Ability to lead problem solving, analyze results of electrical repairs to ensure objectives are met in a group/team environment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment, preference will be given to those with OSB mill experience.
  • Technical trade qualifications (such as a journeymen electrician) or Electrical Technical Degree or equivalent experience / training.
  • Knowledge of industrial safety procedures and regulations.
  • Strong work ethic, good judgment and decision-making skills. Should have excellent written and verbal communication skills. With the ability to understand complex written and oral instructions
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills and experience successfully leading a team to achieve excellent results.
  • Ability to generate commitment and motivate employees toward a common goal.
  • Strong communication skills: written, oral and listening.
  • Ability to lead problem solving and analyze results to ensure objectives are met in a group/team environment.
  • Thorough understanding of labour and or employee relations.
  • Solid computer skills.
  • Leading and/or influencing problem-solving and ensuring technical and/or appropriate operations support are utilized during problems or upset conditions
  • Ability to meet and deal tactfully and courteously with fellow employees and vendors/contractors.
  • Thorough knowledge of the occupation hazards and corresponding safety precautions necessary for the safe performance of assigned duties.
