Reporting directly to the Senior Forester, this position assists in ensuring the sustainability of the forest resources in the Peace River Forest Area. You will be working at the operational level with industry forestry practitioners in the implementation of Annual Harvesting and Silviculture Plans and will strive to ensure compliance with legislation, policy, directive, approval conditions and approved plans. You will work to lead the forest operations monitoring program and provide guidance to a team of inspectors who will inspect and monitor forest companies’ harvesting and silvicultural activities while ensuring consistent standards are maintained and all policy directed targets for Reforestation, Operations and Timber Production Monitoring are met. Ensuring forest sustainability of harvest practices is a critical objective of this role.

ABOUT YOUR WORK ENVIRONMENT:

As the successful candidate, you will be operating out of an office and field setting. Travel within the region on a regular basis and throughout the province on occasion will be required as part of your responsibilities and you will have frequent contact with Ministry staff and colleagues, other government departments, clients, and external stakeholders province-wide.

Salary: $2,511.88 to $3,231.60 bi-weekly ($65,560 to $84,345 per annum). Closing Date: July 12, 2016.

Qualifications: A diploma in Forestry or a related Natural Resources Management field plus six years of related experience is required. Equivalencies such as a degree in Forestry or a related Natural Resource Management field plus a minimum of four years of related experience will be considered. Membership, or eligibility for membership, with the College of Alberta Professional Foresters, or the College of Alberta Professional Forest Technologists, is also required. Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification and salary.
