Millar Western’s advanced BCTMP mill at Whitecourt, Alberta, is seeking a Chemical Engineer to play a leadership role in mill optimization and new technology implementation.  As Process Engineer, you will apply your skills and knowledge to process enhancement, process control and energy management.  As well, you will lend your expertise to the mill’s R&D activities, including start-up of an innovative bioenergy project, scheduled for completion in 2015, that will convert waste streams to renewable energy. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Process optimization: Advise on process optimization and plant debottlenecking; conduct daily plant performance/quality assessments and troubleshoot process issues; assist in the development of control strategies for new process systems; manage and improve current process simulation; perform process engineering calculations and data analysis; review PID and P&ID drawings.
  • Energy management: Participate in the mill’s energy management efforts, helping to ensure compliance with regulatory and program requirements; identify new opportunities for reducing energy usage.
  • R&D: Develop capital project justifications for expenditures; design and manage capital improvement projects; participate in the implementation and optimization of a new bioenergy project; analyze and make recommendations on advances in R&D; work on new product development.

 The ideal candidate

Qualified applicants will hold a degree in Chemical Engineering and have excellent written and verbal communication abilities. You will have proven leadership and interpersonal skills, and thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.  You will be an enthusiastic, highly motivated and creative problem solver and enjoy technical challenges.  You will be proficient with MS Office and possess a Class 5 driver’s license.
