Alright everybody, there’s some big things going down with Work Wild. I don’t know if you’ve figured it out yet, but the reason Work Wild was started up in January was because we want the public to know what’s happening with the forest industry. Mostly because it’s a super-sweet sustainable industry that has many scrumptulescent* jobs waiting for you, and it’s important to Alberta’s economy.

SO WHAT’S SO EXCITING AND NEW?

I’ve spent a ton of time in high schools in the last year giving high school students the chance to drill me with questions about the environment, job opportunities, and what it’s like to work in forestry, because there will be many jobs when they’re done their trades training, university/college, and when they come out of high school. You know when else there are going to be jobs? Yesterday. That’s right, there’s tons of jobs in the forest industry right now, and we need some people fresh out of University to take these jobs on. Engineers, chemists, biologists, accountants, sales people, those people who go get coffee for other people, foresters, power engineers, electricians, dog walkers… There is a job for you in the forest industry.

I DIDN’T KNOW THAT!

Yes I know you didn’t know that. That’s my bad. But you will know that soon. Because over the next year we will be giving away sweet prizes at competitions around the province. We’re headed to places like Grande Prairie Regional College on September 8, U of Calgary September 9 and Grant Mac on September 13. You want to know what we’re giving away? A free ski trip for two on a Backside Tours ski trip. Why are we doing that? Because Backside is awesome and they also want to tell the world that managing the environment (and our personal lives) sustainably is the only way we can continue our sweet outdoor pursuits like hiking, skiing, golfing and surfing!

I WANT A FREE SKI/SNOWBOARD TRIP
Of course you do. But so does every other person in the world. Especially those starving students who live to have a good time on the campuses we’re visiting. How are you going to win this ski trip? You’re going to have to come see us at one of these events. Then you’re going to have to do something ridiculous… while blindfolded… with a giant squirrel watching… while people who also want to win ski trips scream pure lies and deceit at you. It’s going to be awesome. Keep watching facebook.com/workwild for info. You can also come talk to me or one of my Work Wild friends about opportunities that may exist for you in the forest industry. We are mostly fun and our jobs are basically to give you free stuff and information.

So basically, if you live in Calgary, Edmonton or Grande Prairie and want to win stuff, watch the facebook page and come find us. Also, if you have a group of 15-50 friends who want to ride some big mountains this winter, check out Backside Tours. The people there are awesome and really, really, really, ridiculously good looking and love to ride mountains as well.

*Scrumptulescent definition
Tasty, excellent and kind of see through in a glowing and good kind of way.
Also can mean a job that provides an awesome lifestyle and meaningful employment in a sustainable industry.
