Well no, they can’t. At least a regular squirrel can’t. Heavy machinery (as its name suggests) is way too big for a tiny squirrel to operate. Not to mention squirrels probably don’t have the brain function to learn how to operate anything more complicated than a nutshell. But there is one squirrel who has proven he is big enough to at least appear that he is operating some heavy machinery. Meet Scampy:
Actually, that’s just me in a squirrel costume. But I felt like a real squirrel when students stared at me and threw food at me. (Just kidding. But they did give me high fives!) And because so many of us, like Scampy and I, don’t actually know how to operate this machine (it’s an excavator) or other heavy machinery, we need to find people who can do it! Or at least people who are willing to learn how.
Look at some of the cool machinery you could operate:
Feller buncher: This efficient machine rapidly cuts and gathers several trees before felling them.
Delimber: Just as its name suggests, a delimber removes the limbs (also known as branches) from the trees before they are sent to a mill.
Button top log loader: It has a deceivingly cute name for such a strong machine. The button top log loader lifts logs from trucks onto piles on the ground.

These are only a few of the high-tech heavy machines that are waiting for people like you to operate.
Forestry mills are looking to hire heavy machine operators, and they pay pretty good money, too. Wages range between about $21 and $37 per hour in Alberta right now.
This way we can leave Scampy to do what he does best: scampering.
