Greetings to the Work Wild community!

My name is Caitlin and I am the newest member of the amazing Work Wild team!  As I hope to be with you for a while, I thought it important to introduce just a little bit about who I am and how I ended up here.

I’ve always had an appreciation for nature, and grew up camping in parkland and boreal areas of Alberta. There is nothing more enjoyable than hiking through beautiful old growth forest just to break through the tree edge to view an amazing mountain valley and cracking open your favourite book. My desire for exploration and new experiences has brought me all over the world, from the tropical forests of Ecuador, to the moss covered landscapes of Iceland.

Everything that I have observed on my travels increased my awe with nature and the plants and animals that are found in it. My interests led me to pursue education in environmental sciences where I learned about ecosystem relationships, sustainable management of natural resources, and the interactions between industry and rare species! While I may have spent the last couple of summers researching rare species in the heat of the dry mixedgrass prairies of Southern Alberta (notice the complete lack of trees!) I am thrilled to be back in the land of forests!

I have spent many years educating school aged children and the general public about the natural history of Alberta and the connections that resource use has with the landscape. I am very excited to use those skills in this new position and to continue to learn about all that Alberta forests have to offer.

I am looking forward to learning more about the diverse forest industry in Alberta and touring forestry mills and woodlands in the next couple of weeks with Ann before hitting the road to meet all of you amazing people. I hope to introduce you to many of the opportunities that the forest industry offers and together we will contribute to Alberta’s dynamic and sustainable forests.
