Last week I spent three days in beautiful Jasper for the Alberta Forest Products Association’s annual general meeting. If I hadn’t been working so much I would have gone out and enjoyed my amazing surroundings. This is what I got to look at each day:
It was pretty painful looking at this amazing view every day and not being able to go exploring. It’s a shame to drive all the way to Jasper and not enjoy the mountains, water, and forests! I will have to return soon and go for some hikes and bike rides.
Besides not being able to explore the outdoors, it was a great trip and I met a lot of enthusiastic people who want to see forestry continue to grow in Alberta. I was fortunate enough to see Alison Redford speak. Since her run for PC leadership, I have admired her speaking skills so this was a really cool experience! Redford talked about the importance of forestry to Alberta’s economy.
Did you know that forestry is one of the four biggest industries in Alberta? And that 60% of Alberta is covered in forest? Forests provide jobs and money so people can pay for food, shelter, clothing, and trips to Jasper to enjoy our beautiful landscapes! And thankfully we have foresters who care about keeping our forests sustainable so we will continue to have numerous trees sprinkled along our gorgeous landscapes. As I mentioned in my last post, for every tree that is harvested, at least two new trees are planted in its place to ensure an enduring tree-filled province.
Speaking of our diverse province, I didn’t realize how diverse Alberta’s traffic signs were! I found this perplexing speed limit just outside of Slave Lake a couple weeks ago. I wonder what formula was used to come up with the number 27!
