To support the successful implementation of our Sawmill upgrade we have an opportunity for a full time (term position) Project Safety Coordinator in Grande Prairie Lumber.

The expectations of this role include:

  • The successful individual will report to the Site Safety/Environmental Manager and Project Liaison.
  • Assist with job plan/site preparation as required, i.e., barrier tape installation and authorization, posting signage, identifying known hazards and risk mitigation requirements, group lockout procedures, hot work permit authorization; safe work permit issuance, traffic control plans; first aid readiness.
  • Perform regular general site hazard assessments, identifying deficiencies and take action to mitigate risks.
  • Work closely with and take day-to-day direction from the project and construction manager to promote a safe, injury-free construction site.
  • Review field level hazard assessments (FLHA), completed by construction personnel to ensure they are applicable to the scope of work, they are properly completed and workers are involved.
  • Participate in and conduct safety meetings; daily toolbox talks, and weekly contractor meetings.
  • Provide site orientations to contractors, subcontractors, client representatives, visitors and track the completion of such.
  • Provide OHS training as directed.
  • Track and report project safety statistics at set intervals.
  • Complete incident investigations including the documenting of incidents, taking witness statements and performing root cause analysis.
  • Ensure that work on the construction site is conducted in accordance with the safe work permit that is in place, site policies and procedures and the OH&S (act, regulation, and code).
  • Complete scheduled safety inspections that are documented in the general site inspection form. Assign corrective actions and follow up to ensure completion.
  • Communicate the learnings from near misses, hazard observations and inspections to all construction site personnel and company representatives on a daily basis.
  • Must have standard first aid/ CPR, AED use certification.
  • Flexibility in work hours is required, may be required to work evenings and weekends on occasion.
  • Act as a resource for construction site personnel in chemical/waste management and environmental stewardship.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have demonstrated the following:

  • 3 + years safety experience is required.
  • Ability to meet all Team Norms and Standards with a clear focus on active participation in the Safety Program.
  • Physically able to perform the role.
  • Ability to effectively communicate.
  • Demonstrated self-starter that is able to get things done.
  • Positive Attitude
  • Ability to prioritize.
  • Ability to learn SAP and Workflow processes.
  • Preference is given to candidates that have their Certified National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation.
  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
  • Additional certifications or post-secondary education an asset.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office computer skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.

License or certification:

  • NCSO (preferred)
  • CRSP designation an asset.
  • Class 5 Driver’s License

This is a full-time term position and will be administered through the tech progression system for the duration of the term period.
