Job Description:

  • Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Team Lead oversees the day-to-day operations across the mill ensuring safety and reliability.
  • The successful candidate will provide leadership, guidance and supervise shift employees, and plans, coordinates and resolves maintenance activities, as necessary.
  • This position is a salaried full-time position, working a rotational 12-hour shift and is part of the Weyerhaeuser Wood Products business.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures that safety, maintenance, housekeeping, and all established procedures and reliable methods are fully utilized.
  • Implements and coordinates departmental safety processes and education to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Develops team members through training and coaching and conducts evaluations to provide employees with feedback.
  • Participates in goal setting and improves and maintains department performance according to set objectives and established goals including safety, quality, process reliability, and housekeeping.
  • Identifies mechanical issues and coordinates necessary maintenance activities.
  • Resolves employee issues; administers policies fairly and consistently and assures open communication among all employees.
  • Provides leadership for regular team meetings and facilitates proactive problem-solving processes.
  • Provides accurate and timely production reporting.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable Weyerhaeuser, federal, provincial and local laws and regulations.
  • Communicates and collaborates with adjoining Shift Team Leaders.
  • Consistently promotes and role models a strong focus on safety.
  • Primarily responsible for the safety of Employees, efficient operation of the crew and all production facilities while on shift.
  • Ensures proper job and safety procedures are followed.
  • Guides a team in establishing continuous improvement processes to manage operations in key areas such as safety, quality, production, cost, housekeeping, reliable methods, customer/supplier relationships, problem-solving, team development and performance measurement.
  • Encourages a positive attitude and cooperation within own team as well as all other departments within the mill.
  • Works cooperatively with maintenance to promote and implement preventative and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Preparation of appropriate operating and statistical reports.
  • Leading process improvement initiatives and teams as assigned.
  • Administering Company policies in a fair and equitable manner.
  • Deals effectively with numerous priorities and issues and have the ability to problem-solve and make decisions.
  • Interfaces with the Leadership Team to assure overall unit effectiveness.
  • Serve as a resource to provide technical and team development skills support as assigned.
  • Meet productivity and reliability goals and identify/resolve the safety, quality, and production issues.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience in an industrial environment.
  • A passion for safety and exceptional leadership capability in improving safety performance.
  • Working knowledge of SAP, Peoplesoft, and Microsoft office applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Collaborates with the maintenance team to coordinate preventative and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Has prior experience supervising employees.
  • Has a working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and welding trades.
