As the Regional Forest Technology Supervisor, you will ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Requirements, forestry legislation, Canfor’s Environmental Policy, Forestry Principles, and Forestry Management System. You will implement and sustain technology-related efficiencies and cost-saving initiatives and support Regional Woodlands teams by assisting, coaching, and training employees in using current and developing technologies. Your responsibilities will include investigating and implementing new and existing technology platforms, such as the Forest Connectivity Project, FPDat, Truck GPS, mobile apps, LIMS, Forest OPS, LiDAR, drones (UAV), and satellite imagery.

 

The life of the Regional Forest Technology Supervisor includes:

  • Collaborate with Regional Woodlands teams on technology initiatives and requirements.
  • Travel monthly to regional divisions to facilitate technology use and learning.
  • Stay current with forestry technology platforms and applications, and educate others.
  • Support divisional Operations and Planning with technology at both field and office levels.
  • Engage with divisional teams as a team member and participate in divisional and regional meetings.
  • Learn business operations to incorporate technology and automation into daily activities.
  • Report monthly on the status of regional technology priorities to Woodlands Managers.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, demonstrating good time management and scheduling skills.
  • Implement and manage specific ongoing projects such as GPS Cycle Time Application, Steep Slope Analysis, and Drone Technology.
  • Perform ongoing tasks like proficiency in Forest OPS, drone analysis of log yards, investigating digital headsets, technology use in timber scaling, FP Dats maintenance, operational productivity analysis, and using Power BI for reporting.

 

For this role, come equipped with:

  • Minimum 3 years of related forestry experience
  • University degree or technical diploma in a related field
  • Current registration or eligibility to become registered as an RPF or RPFT within Alberta within two years
  • Excellent computer skills, technology, and related software knowledge including forestry applications
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 driver’s license; applicants must include a current driver’s abstract with their resume.

 

In a perfect world, you also possess expertise in forestry-related innovations and technology applications, along with experience in contract supervision.
