The Edson facility is located in central Alberta. Edson has a population of 8,646 (2012 Municipal Census) and has a full range of recreational and cultural facilities. This position is part of the Mill HR & Payroll Team at the Edson oriented strand board mill and reports to the Mill Manager. The HR & Payroll Coordinator provides expertise and support hourly payroll, time keeping, HR and Office administration aspects of the Mill.

Key Functions:

  • Support & role-model the unit’s safety program initiatives.
  • Perform a wide variety of complex administrative assignments of a payroll nature, such as: analyzing accounts, records, reports, journal vouchers, ledgers & auditing payroll data for accuracy & completeness.
  • Coordinate and monitor all aspects of the hourly payroll system, supporting the supervisors and interfacing with payroll contacts at the head office.
  • Provide HR administrative support to include fielding basic benefits questions, providing selection and hiring support, assisting with on boarding and managing HR activities and projects as requested.
  • Assist in the preparation & analysis of various reports.
  • Participate in audits of the accounting and payroll system.
  • Prepare materials for presentations or reports using various software applications such as Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
  • Maintain records, research & gather data, and compose correspondence.
  • Provides administrative & clerical support to the Unit Manager and HR Manager.

Qualifications

The following qualifications are preferred:

  • College coursework or Associates (2 year) degree with minimum three (3) years’ experience in a payroll and/or HR support position.
  • Experience in a 24/7 manufacturing operation and in a unionized environment.
  • Experience using Citrix, PeopleSoft and SAP programs.
  • Experience supporting multiple managers.
  • Ability to track & manage hourly payroll processes and related activities.
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Ability to create databases, run reports and use queries for data retrieval.
  • Strong organizational skills, strong sense of accuracy and eye for details.
  • Team oriented, yet with the ability to work independently.
  • Proven, pro-active problem solving approach with the ability to work in a fast paced environment while handling varying priorities.
  • Capability to communicate & work successfully with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work successfully with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong initiative with the ability to work with limited direct supervision.
  • Ability to role model safe practices and actively support the Unit’s safety, quality and production goals
