Our North Central Woodlands Team, located near the towns of Slave Lake and High Prairie, Alberta, have an immediate opening for a highly motivated professional forester for the following position. This role is open to all interested qualified candidates and could be based in Slave Lake or High Prairie.

PLANNING FORESTER

Reporting to the Planning Superintendent, the Planning Forester will take primary responsibility for the development and submission of all annual plans required to operate on company tenures.  This position offers a balanced mix of field and office work while being home every night.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Timber and access reconnaissance
  • Field layout, supervision of contract layout
  • Liaison with multiple stakeholders including First Nations, government trappers and oil & gas operators
  • AOP and FHP development and submission
  • Stakeholder and Indigenous communication
  • Completing all necessary field work including cut block and road layout
  • Supervision of contract layout crews as required

Other responsibilities may include:

  • DFMP planning, assisting with harvest supervision, and silviculture projects

The ideal candidate:

  • Registered as Forest Practitioner in Alberta as an RPF or RFT
  • 2-4 years of relevant forester experience
  • Preference will be given to those with experience in operational planning
  • Working knowledge of the Alberta Ground Rules and Planning requirements

Candidates with other forestry experience with a desire to expand their career as an operational planner will also be considered.
