Located in Edmonton, this is a senior professional position responsible for the development of standards, manuals and policies, in close consultation with affected stakeholders, related to reforestation and silvicultural practices in Alberta.

This senior leadership position acts as both the Departmental and provincial expert in all matters related to reforestation and the practice of silviculture in Alberta’s forest types. Specialized skills and extensive field expertise in a variety of reforestation and stand tending treatments in Alberta’s many forest types, as well as an exceptionally strong ability to communicate to a diverse audience are required. Strategic and innovative thinking are both key to ensuring reforestation and stand tending practices and policies are consistent with sustainable forest management principles. This is Strategic Advisory position requires acute skills in persuasive leadership, advisory, mentoring, and communication to ensure continual improvement and refinement of reforestation and stand tending practices in Alberta.

Well-developed leadership skills including the ability to give highly credible, authoritative, timely policy interpretation and direction to field and industry staff on silviculture treatments will enable your success in this role.

You will have the ability to listen and diffuse sensitive and complex reforestation issues through attending to the concerns of affected parties

ABOUT YOUR COMPETENCIES:

Qualifications: BSc in Forestry Management (or closely related field) plus a minimum of nine years extensive related field and policy development experience in the areas of reforestation strategies and practices, and stand tending treatments. Detailed knowledge and extensive experience in the theory of ecology and silviculture in the context of Alberta’s forests. Membership or eligibility for membership in the College of Alberta Professional Foresters. Detailed knowledge of forest policy and legislation.

Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower salary and level. This competition may be used to fill current and future vacancies across government. Candidates must have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
