TECHNICAL MANAGER

QUALIFICATIONS:

Reporting to the General Manager, the ideal candidate will provide direction and leadership, and possess:

  • Engineering eligible for registration in Alberta, or Science Degree,
  • Strong chemical, environmental, process and technical skills in pulp and paper, or manufacturing
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Computer skills and a valid driver’s license
  • Supervisory experience, and pulp and paper industrial experience is an asset

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure a safe work environment for the Technical department by enforcing safe work practices, supporting company policies, investigating incidents and ensuring proper training and adherence to best practices
  • Lead, mentor and set direction for the technical department
  • Work collaboratively with Production, Maintenance and Purchasing departments to ensure the mill operates efficiently, to targets, cost effectively and within compliance
  • Work with Marketing and Production to lead product development, customer service and process optimization
  • Establish new and maintain existing quality and environmental monitoring and reporting processes
  • Work with Production and Engineering on process development, improvement and implementation
  • Monitor, control and work toward improved chemical, energy, and mechanical processes

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS & SKILLS:

  •  Written and verbal communication, supervisory and mentoring skills fitting toward modern supervision
  • Team concept work environment skills with all personnel
  • Experience in pulp, or manufacturing, and a demonstrated passion for process systems
  • Excellent innovation and problem solving skills
  • Preference may be given to candidates with experience and qualifications in the forest industry
