Millar Western Forest Products Ltd. is currently seeking a detail-oriented, self-motivated person with a strong commitment to productivity and continuous improvement to join our Whitecourt Pulp Division as Steam Chief. As a key member of the Engineering Department, reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this individual will take responsibility for steam, heat, chemical plant and water production, and order and coordinate deliveries of bulk process chemicals, coordinate shutdowns, contractors, personnel for maintenance and boiler outages and inspections. The Steam Chief will also lead and coordinate Bulk Chemical Off-loaders safety meetings and training, liaise with external agencies such as Alberta Boilers Safety Association (ABSA), FM Global, and chemical delivery companies, and research potential upgrades to fire, water & steam systems, chemicals or hardware. 

The ideal candidate

The ideal candidate will possess a 3rd Class Power Engineer Certificate and an in-depth knowledge of ABSA codes.  He or she will be knowledgeable in use of MS Project, with proven experience in and understanding of shutdown planning processes.   Preference will be given to candidates with experience in chemical inventory control, purchasing, work orders and ordering procedures.  General knowledge of Alberta Fire Code, safety codes pertaining to ABSA, computer proficiency (MS Office, SAP and DCS systems), TDG certificate and H2S Alive training will be considered assets. A valid Class 5 driver’s license is required.
