Our Hinton Pulp division in Hinton, AB, has an immediate opening for the dynamic role of:

MATERIALS & PURCHASING SUPERINTENDENT

Reporting to the Divisional Controller, this position will be responsible for managing all aspects of the warehouse operations, procurement activities and direct supervision of stores personnel employees. This position also ensures that all capital, maintenance and general goods and services required by the mill are procured and administered in compliance with corporate and company purchasing policies and procedures.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Participates in the development of procurement and control policies, practices, processes
  • Supervises direct reports, including coaching, developing, and managing performance
  • Provide leadership and guidance to all supervisors and planners for optimal inventory levels, cost control and savings
  • Supervises all procurement activities and participates in high value, high-risk activities for all inventory and direct charge
  • Works closely with maintenance team to ensure all inventory is managed at required levels
  • Accountable for inventory level reviews and physical inventory counts
  • Assist in the development of capital expenditure budgets and projects
  • Negotiating of supply contracts for the division in collaboration with Corporate Purchasing
  • Responsible for disposal and cost recovery of surplus/obsolete assets
  • Build strong relationships with internal customers
  • Manage vendor relationships (sources, evaluates and monitors vendor performance)
  • Supports and participates in the Division’s safety programs
  • Provide overview and direction for managing ISO component as it relates to purchasing
  • Train personnel to provide vacation and absence relief when required in the various positions
  • Review T&Cs/site contracts for value, and negotiate changes as required
  • Supervise the preparation and distribution of RFQs
  • Support, lead and promote corporate initiatives
  • Additional duties as required

The successful candidate will possess:

  • A minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience
  • Professional certification or participation in Supply Chain Management Association of Canada’s certificate program
  • A minimum of five (5) years purchasing experience preferably in a pulp mill or related forestry industry
  • Outstanding communication and negotiation skills
  • Change management skills (initiating, facilitating and implementing change)
  • Strong planning, organizational skills, and decision-making skills
  • The desire to progress, learn, grow and succeed
  • A detailed and proactive approach to work, with a high level of motivation
  • Working knowledge of CMMS systems (specifically Oracle or Maximo) would be considered a strong asset
