Apprentice Heavy Duty Mechanic

This position offers a challenging, diverse and exciting opportunity to become part of our team. Job duties will fall within our Mobile Shop department. This position requires an individual who will perform a variety of tasks related to the safe and efficient application of the technical skills and knowledge of a Heavy Duty Mechanic. Responsibilities include working in the shop and in the yard with other mechanics, performing all repairs and preventive maintenance on wheel loaders, log loaders, forklifts, and logging trucks while ensuring the quality and standards of service to safety and production are maintained.

Our ideal candidate must possess:

  • A valid Inter-Provincial or Provincial 3rd or 4th-year Apprentice Certification
  • Commitment to working safely and creating a safe workplace
  • Ability to read manuals and schematics
  • Knowledge of Hydraulics
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision
  • Organizational and planning skills
  • Flexible schedule for shifts, Tuesday to Saturday or Sunday to Thursday with possible nightshift from October to May

Considered a strong asset:

  • Experience working in a fleet shop
  • Cat, Taylor, Volvo, and Pacific truck experience
  • Strong electrical background
  • Forestry and logging truck experience preferred

Manning Forest Products is a sawmill located approximately 280 kilometers north of Grande Prairie, Alberta. The town is situated around the scenic Notikewin River that provides an idyllic backdrop for the tree-lined streets, an abundance of flower stands and pedestrian-friendly streets. Medical, educational and retail services are provided to the approximate 1400 residents along with a pool, ball diamonds, curling and hockey facilities, golf course and river walking trails. Manning is known as the land of the mighty moose and the area surrounding Manning is a paradise for fishing, quadding and snowmobiling.
