Millar Western’s Whitecourt Wood Products Division is seeking an individual to fill the Site Services Fire Protection role. Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, the successful candidate will work in collaboration with the maintenance team with a focus on the coordination, documentation and improvement of on-site fire protection systems and maintenance initiatives. He or she will maintain the integrity of the fire protection system and equipment to protect personnel, the facility and machinery within the operation. The successful candidate will be accountable for ensuring all fire extinguisher, dry valve, and flow tests are completed, that property insurance standards and all legislated fire protection requirements and regulations are met, and that communication with appropriate external and internal parties is up to date and relevant. The successful candidate will also be required to manage general projects including carpentry work.

The ideal candidate

Qualified applicants will have previous experience working with a fire protection system (dry valves, fire hydrants, sprinkler systems, PIV’s, fire extinguishers), complemented by a variety of required skills including, but not limited to carpentry, plumbing, HVAC and pipefitting. Experience with SAP and computerized maintenance systems will be considered an asset. The successful applicant will possess excellent analytical, trouble shooting, interpersonal and communication skills.
