OVERVIEW
Vertex is currently accepting applications for up to (6) full-time permanent and/or seasonal Forest Operations Technologists. This position will be responsible for forest operational & planning field work throughout Central and Northern Alberta. The successful candidate will demonstrate professionalism, possess a strong work ethic and a desire to contribute to the company’s overall success.
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
- 0 – 3 years’ experience required
- Professional Designation in Alberta or Eligibility as a RPFT is preferred
- Forest operations and planning experience along with proven skills in forest measurements, eco-typing, harvest layout, stream and waterbody classification and GIS Arc Maps would be considered an asset
- Familiarity with Public Lands Act, Water Act, Wildlife Act, GoA and AER applications is preferred
- Field experience in wildlife sweeps, surveys, watercourse, and wetland assessments is preferred but not required
- Basic computer knowledge and skilled in Microsoft Office and ARC GIS Online
- Willingness to work daily in remote wilderness locations only accessible by ATV/Snowmobile
- Possess a strong attention to detail for quality of work, deliverables along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
RESPONSIBILITIES
- GPS field data capture and survey
- GIS mapping capabilities and proficiency
- Water course classification, 3rd party crossing identification
- Assessing hazard trees / patrolling utility lines in remote locations
- Technical writing, regulatory applications, report preparation and 3rd party notification requirement identification
- Expect field shifts of up to 10 days in length
